Plan.

My favorite plan is no plan. What fun is knowing how something will happen? Maybe with long-term dreams, goals and manifestations of the soul. But on the day to day, I like to leave this life up for chance. There’s one individual who I know lives the same way, and this is his Slug Story. Meet a man like no other: my brother Whit Redgate. 

Whit and I had met before we even met. People and parties had told us we’d be great friends for years, and one day as I was walking through the architecture school, it happened. Whit was sitting at a table and I went up to him and said “Hey”. He said “Who are you?”. I said “Ben Smith.” And we both knew. The rest is history. Over the next several years we spent countless hours discussing life, creating projects, helping each other navigate school and love and architecture. Whit is someone who dreams vast and deep and sees the truth of this thing called life. I was in Miami shooting a short film, so I met Whit at our friend Massimo‘s apartment in Miami Beach for breakfast. The only plan of the day.

We then went to the first store to ever sell Slugs, Soho House Miami. It was Whit who helped me get into the store in January and now all three colorways were on the floor. We had a lovely day at the beach and me, Whit, and Pau (founder of Pausa Studios) drove to Bone Shaker, a very retro Motel/pool situation to swim and eat.

Right when we walked in, it was as if me, Pau and Whit had the same exact thought. “Go get the Slug”, Whit said. I ran to the car, grabbed the slug, grabbed the camera, and came back. In the 45 seconds I was gone, Pau had begun to art direct the scene, and Whit had already jumped in the pool LOL. 3, 2, 1… Action! We shot it and got it. This video really represents the lifestyle we all naturally live. Creating in cool places with amazing people. I can’t wait to see what us three do when we actually have a plan.
