The Opposite of Fear is Faith

The Biggest Risk is Not Taking Any Risk At All.

“The biggest risk is not taking any risk at all”. You know that little feeling that you get when you think something is a good idea. Whether it’s talking to a cute girl or coming up with a great idea. That is called intuition. Some would call that the divine. Now, despite receiving this incredible feeling, many times we reject it, or do nothing with it. There is a great perceived risk in expressing our gut feelings. What will come from expressing this? Will people like it? Will doing something about it make me look dumb? That is fear, and fear is the opposite of faith. Fear is what holds us back from expressing our truest self. This Slug Story is about trusting your intuition, betting on yourself and taking a risk. The leading star: none other than my best friend and actor, Yaari Magenheim.

My Father is Related to Howie Mandel.

Yaari and I met when we were eight years old. For some reason, I have no clue as to why, both my dad, Adam, and Yaari‘s mom, Eloise, decided to coach a third grade basketball team together. My dad had never played basketball before, and Eloise never coached. However, the first day of practice went well so in celebration, the two coaches and their children (me and Yaari) went to Boston Market to celebrate. That day, my dad had Yaari hysterically laughing. I’m pretty sure he was trying to convince Yaari that he was related to Howie Mandel from Deal or No Deal, LOL. Anyways, from that team, sparked an almost 20 year friendship between me and Yaari. We experienced so much life together, from sleep away camp, to trips abroad, hanging out almost every day growing up. And over those 20 years we developed a shared mindset that can only be understood by best friends.

Actor’s Guild.

Yaari is also an actor. He was a costar on a prevalent Canadian kids TV show back in the early 2010s and has continued acting over the past several years, really getting back into it since moving to Atlanta. I was always very proud and looked up to the fact that he was acting, especially when it wasn’t as accepted from our peers back in 8th grade. The joy of performing and expressing yourself is one of the greatest feelings one can experience in this life. For Yaari to pursue that on a professional level, I commended him greatly.

When Slug was launched, Yaari and I always spoke about working on something together. We had this idea about someone sick and tired of not pursuing their dreams. Perhaps we both had felt this way before, but really, I think everyone has. We wanted to represent that.

We’re All Gonna Die. So, Live.

Taking a chance on your intuition, your dreams, your gut feelings, is why we are here on Earth. For that reason alone, every outcome is a win. I try not to have many fears in life, but I do have a few. I fear “regret”. One day, we will not be here. So during that time, I will try my best to do the things I love… the things that guide my intuition. So if you’re still here reading this, take a chance. Take a risk. Do the thing you’re scared to do. Because it may lead you - No. It will lead you to where you dream to be..
